Een gerichte, kortdurende interventie, vanuit kennis van autisme, kan in die gevallen veel oplossen. Loop je op de werkvloer tegen problemen aan dan heeft dat vaak te maken met communicatie en wederzijds begrip. Zoals een consultant bedrijfsprocessen analyseert, kijkt Mariëlle van der Plas met haar kennis van autisme naar de werksituatie.

Geen gewone jobcoach
Autisme Werk Match, het bedrijf van Van der Plas, coacht werknemers met (een vermoeden van) autisme met een gemiddelde tot hoge intelligentie. In haar functie als jobcoach komt ze geregeld bij bedrijven waar ze met werknemer en werkgever kijkt hoe iemand goed kan functioneren op de werkvloer en tegen minder obstakels loopt in zijn/haar functioneren.
Individuele aanpak bij Autisme Werk Match
Van der Plas wordt uitgenodigd door bedrijven om hun werknemers het best tot hun recht te laten komen. Soms om een (dreigend) conflict te voorkomen. In veel gevallen ontbreekt kennis over de aanwezigheid en consequenties van autisme of wordt gedacht dat er al genoeg bekend is binnen de organisatie. Van der Plas daarover: “Je weet pas echt iets over de situatie als je met beide partijen kunt bespreken: wat zit jou in de weg, wie of wat heb je daarbij nodig?” Dankzij haar expertise en ervaring zorgt ze ervoor dat alle partijen elkaar weer gaan begrijpen en de onderlinge verstandhouding hersteld wordt.
Kijken naar talenten
Van der Plas erkent dat autisme voor velen beperkend is, maar wil graag inzoomen op specifieke kwaliteiten van mensen met autisme. Om vervolgens, vanuit de samenwerking met de medewerker en werkgever, dit tot een succes te maken. Van der Plas: “Ik kijk hoe de talenten van iemand, rekening houdend met beperkingen en benodigdheden, uiteindelijk het beste uit de verf komen. Al mijn inzichten en interventies zijn erop gericht om op autisme een positiever licht te laten schijnen.”
Problemen voorkomen
Goede, onderlinge communicatie en begrip voor elkaar blijven nog altijd de belangrijkste manieren om problemen op de werkvloer te voorkomen, weet Van der Plas. “Heb iets meer aandacht voor wat er daadwerkelijk aan de hand is, zonder dat je het al van tevoren invult. Daar help ik graag aan mee en heb je al die lange trajecten met jobcoaches van het UWV echt niet voor nodig.” Ze besluit: “Kleine veranderingen leiden soms tot aanzienlijke verbeteringen op de werkvloer. Zo kan iedereen met meer plezier zijn of haar werk uitvoeren.” En daar profiteren we uiteindelijk allemaal van.
